Named for 19th century local businessman David S. Coolidge, Coolidge Corner offers a diverse cultural mix. The Coolidge brothers’ general store that opened in 1857 at the intersection of Beacon Street and Harvard Street. At the site today is the iconic S.S. Pierce building, a historically significant Tudor-style building recognizable by its large clock tower.

The neighborhood is busy, but not crowded, and it offers plenty in the way of shopping, dining, and night life.

History

Coolidge Corner got its start when the Coolidge family opted to open a general store to serve wealthy Boston estate owners in the 1800s.  The area underwent a residential and commercial boom with the introduction of the trolley line shortly thereafter. There was a second boom during the 20s and 30s. Coolidge Corner is also famous because it is the birthplace of John F. Kennedy.  You can visit the birthplace of President John F. Character

Coolidge Corner is known for its Russian-Jewish population, and this ethnic character shows in the preponderance of Jewish bakeries and delis dotting the area. That’s not all you’ll find in this bustling Brookline neighborhood, however. The Coolidge Corner Clubhouse will delight you with heaping plates of nachos and cool, refreshing beers. The Eureka! Store is packed with games and puzzles—and its free game night is a don’t-miss event. New England Comics offers a huge inventory of comics, graphic novels, and toys.

The people here are generally independent, adaptable sorts. The diverse population is usually quite friendly to newcomers, as well. Many professionals call Coolidge Corner home, which means your future neighbors and friends will be well-educated, interesting people from a diverse set of backgrounds. Commuting and Transportation

Coolidge Corner puts you right off the turnpike, and gives you easy access to Route 9. You’ll be right on the Green Line here. You’ll also be served by MATB’s #66 bus. Coolidge Corner is considered to be a highly walkable neighborhood. Indeed, parking is at a premium here, so it’s not rare to meet residents who have simply opted to live car-free.
